Getting Started
How long does the hiring process take?
Most roles are filled within 2-4 weeks from your initial consultation. For urgent needs, we can sometimes place candidates within 7-10 days. The timeline depends on role complexity and availability of suitable candidates.
Is there a minimum commitment?
We typically work on ongoing arrangements rather than fixed-term contracts, though we can accommodate specific project needs. There's flexibility to scale up or down as your business needs change.
Can I hire just one person or do I need to hire a team?
You can hire as few or as many people as you need—from a single role to an entire department. We work with businesses hiring 1-50+ people.
Costs & Pricing
How much does it cost?
Pricing varies by role, experience level, company location and specific requirements. As a general guide, you can expect to save 40-45% compared to equivalent UK hiring costs and 50-60% for US local hire. Contact us for a detailed quote based on your specific needs, or use our online calculator for an estimate.
How does payment work?
You pay DUX one monthly fee in GBP, which covers the employee's salary, our service fee, and all South African employment costs (taxes, benefits, etc.). We send you one simplified invoice each month. No complex billing, no hidden costs.
Are there any setup fees or hidden costs?
Our pricing is transparent. There is a small one-time setup charge that covers initial onboarding costs, including contract preparation, background checks, and administrative setup. After that, your monthly fee covers everything: salary, taxes, benefits, our service fee, and ongoing support. Some clients choose to provide equipment (laptops, etc.), but this is optional. No hidden costs, no surprises.
What's included in your service fee?
Our fee covers:
• Recruitment and vetting
• Employer of Record services
• Monthly payroll processing
• Tax and compliance management
• Benefits administration
• HR support and guidance
• Dedicated account manager
• Ongoing performance support
Do I save money even after your fees?
Yes. Even with our service fees included, clients typically save 40-45% compared to equivalent UK hiring costs and 50-60% for US local hire. These are real savings that go straight to your bottom line or can be reinvested in growth.
Can I get a cost comparison for my specific roles?
Absolutely. Use our online calculator at dux-partners.com/calculator, or contact us directly for a detailed breakdown tailored to your exact requirements.
Talent & Recruitment
What roles can you fill?
We recruit across multiple functions:
• Tech: Developers, Designers, DevOps, QA, Project Managers, Data Analysts
• Finance & Accounting: CFOs, Accountants, Bookkeepers, Financial Analysts
• Admin & HR: Executive Assistants, Office Managers, HR Coordinators
• Marketing: Digital Marketers, Content Writers, Social Media Managers
If you don't see your role listed, contact us—we can source talent for virtually any position.
Are South African professionals really as good as UK and US talent?
Yes. South Africa has world-class universities (UCT and Stellenbosch rank in the global top 200), and many professionals hold internationally recognized qualifications like CIMA, ACCA, and CA(SA). Major companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft actively recruit from South Africa's thriving tech ecosystem.
Can I interview candidates before hiring?
Absolutely. We present you with a shortlist of pre-vetted candidates, and you conduct final interviews (via video call) to make your selection. You have full control over who joins your team.
What if I can't find the right candidate?
We keep searching until we find the right fit. If our initial shortlist doesn't meet your needs, we go back to market and present additional candidates at no extra cost.
Working Arrangements
Do team members work remotely or from an office?
Remote working is our standard model—team members work from home across South Africa with professional setups (fiberinternet, backup power). This gives you access to the widest talent pool and optimal cost savings. For larger teams (5+), we can assist you in arranging office or co-working space through our local contacts.
Legal & Compliance
Do I need to set up a company in South Africa?
No. DUX acts as the Employer of Record (EOR), meaning we legally employ the staff in South Africa on your behalf. You get all the benefits of having a South African team without any of the legal setup, admin, or compliance burden.
What is an Employer of Record?
An Employer of Record (EOR) is a company that legally employs workers on behalf of another business. DUX handles all employment contracts, payroll, taxes, benefits, and compliance in South Africa, while your team members work exclusively for you under your direction.
Who manages HR, payroll, and taxes?
DUX manages all of this. We handle:
• Employment contracts
• Monthly payroll processing
• Tax withholding and filing
• Statutory benefits and contributions
• Leave management
• Compliance with South African labor laws
You receive one simple monthly invoice in GBP.
What happens if employment laws change in South Africa?
As the Employer of Record, we monitor and ensure ongoing compliance with all South African employment legislation. If laws change, we handle all adjustments and keep you informed of anything that might impact your team.
Are there any legal risks for my UK/US company?
No. Because DUX is the legal employer in South Africa, your UK/US company has no direct employment relationship with the South African staff, minimizing legal risk and complexity. We ensure full compliance with all local regulations.
Team Management
How much control do I have over the team member?
You have full control over day-to-day work, task allocation, priorities, and performance management. They work exclusively for you and report directly to you. DUX handles only the employment administration (payroll, HR, compliance).
What if the team member isn't performing well?
You manage performance directly, just as you would with any team member. If performance issues arise:
1. Address them directly with the team member (we can provide guidance)
2. If issues persist, we can facilitate performance improvement plans
3. If necessary, we manage the departure and find you a replacement
What if a placement doesn't work out?
We find you a replacement and manage the complete transition, including the departure of the current resource. Our goal is your long-term success, and we stand behind our placements.
Can I promote or give raises to team members?
Yes. You can adjust compensation, promote team members, or change their roles. Simply notify us, and we'll update contracts and payroll accordingly.
Practical Considerations
What equipment do they need?
Most clients provide laptops and necessary software licenses. We can assist with IT equipment setup and can arrange local procurement in South Africa if needed. Many roles require only a computer and standard software tools.
Do they get benefits like UK/US employees?
Team members receive statutory South African benefits (pension contributions, medical aid contributions, annual leave, sick leave, etc.) which are included in your monthly fee. These are comparable to UK/US benefits but cost significantly less.
What holidays do they observe?
Team members observe South African public holidays (11 per year), which differ from UK/US holidays. Many clients agree on a hybrid approach for key dates. Annual leave entitlement is 21 days per year (SA statutory minimum), which can be taken flexibly.
Can they travel to the UK/US for meetings or training?
Yes. Many clients bring team members to the UK/US for onboarding, team offsites, or important meetings. You arrange and pay for travel.
What if I want to hire them permanently in the UK/US later?
If you want to relocate a team member to the UK/US, we can discuss transition arrangements. This would require work visas and transitioning them off our South African payroll onto your UK/US payroll.
Can I scale my team up or down?
Yes. You have complete flexibility to add team members as you grow or reduce headcount if business needs change. We ask for reasonable notice for any changes to ensure smooth transitions.
